Award- winning music patron DJ Maphorisa allegedly seized actress Thuli Phongolo by her neck and dragged her to the deck of her flat during an altercation on Sunday.

The DJ, born Sonnyboy Sekowe, who was detained at the Sandton police station, is anticipated to appear at the Randburg justice’s court on Monday.

He faces charges of gender- grounded violence( GBV) for assaulting the actress, who’s also his gal.

Phongolo told the police that she had an argument with the Ba Straata hitmaker after she brazened him about an argument at a gig on Saturday night.


She said in a statement “ I brazened him so that we can talk about our argument, which happed the former night during his gig. ”

The actress said the acclaimed music patron responded aggressively and started slighting her on the face.

“ He held me and took me to the deck, and seized me aggressively by my neck, ” Phongolo said.

The actress ’ operation platoon said she was with her road director when she went to the police station to open a case of assault.

“ He’s facing a serious charge of assault GBV and he can only get bail in court for that, so he has to stay behind bars overnight before he can get bail, ” said the source.

Phongolo and Maphorisa have been dating on and off for close to two times.
