Police cells are piling up due to arrests of people who can’t wear masks

 

Thousands of South Africans has been arrested for not wearing masks.

In a report by the SAPS, it shows that police has arrested thousands of South Africans for failing to adhere to Covid 19 regulations and wearing masks being one of the top concern. Many are failing to wear masks under the country’s adjusted level 3 lockdown rules.

Data shown on Monday the 22nd of February showed that 10 701 persons were arrested in various public spaces for not wearing masks in KZN alone bet
29 December and 21 February.

This has made Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker to say that the failure to wear masks , as per the regulations, remains a constant source of concern for the SAPS.

Security has not hidden concerned over high numbers of people who are being arrested daily for not wearing masks.

In a decent and letter of concern the police said that

“We are appealing to people to maintain social distancing. This does not seem to be happening as hordes of people are observed congregating at shopping malls and other public spaces on a daily basis.”

Members of the public should know that not wearing a mask is a criminal offense in South Africa according to South Africa’s current lockdown rules.

Minister Bheki Cele confirmed that not wearing a mask means the start of a criminal record
