According to the health department through minister Mkhize, Astra Zeneca vaccines are wiped out and the rollout will commence with J&J.

Recently the government had announced temporary suspension of AstraZeneca vaccines in South Africa after relevant researches. As of now Astra Zeneca vaccines will only be released if befitting results comes from scientist.

The government will start the rollout plan upon receiving vaccine doses from Johnson and Johnson.

The date will be announced by cabinet.

“Before efficacy results, South Africa could not delay receipt of the vaccine batches to await the results of the efficacy studies by our scientist, as this would have relegated the country to the back of the line for vaccines due global shortage of supplies,” Mkhize said.

Confirmation from the government reads nine million doses from J and J, 12 million doses from Covax and 20 million from Pfizer are seured.

The government is in advanced communication stages with manufacturers of Sputnik vaccine and engagement with with China, manufacturers of sinopharm.
