Watch: CCTV footage of AKA shooting to death emerges online

South African rapper, AKA, was killed. The news of his death has sent waves of disbelief and grief throughout the South African community, particularly amongst his fans who are having a difficult time processing the tragedy.

A CCTV video capturing the moment of the shooting has surfaced on social media.

The video shows AKA and his friends at the entrance of a popular venue in Durban, where they appear to be saying goodbye before heading to their separate cars. Suddenly, an unknown gunman appears and shoots AKA straight in the head, causing him to fall to the ground.

AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was born and raised in Cape Town. He rose to fame in 2011 with the release of his debut single “Victory Lap” from his first studio album, “Altar Ego”. Throughout his career, AKA continued to release critically acclaimed albums and was widely recognized and celebrated in the South African music scene.

In 2020, AKA teamed up with Cruz vodka to launch a watermelon-flavored drink bearing his initials.

He was also featured as a special guest at WWE Live events held in Johannesburg and Cape Town and was the subject of a Comedy Central Roast special in 2019. His album “Levels” was released in 2014 and was certified platinum in 2014 and double platinum in 2018 by the Recording Industry of South Africa. In 2017, he released the collaborative album “Be Careful What You Wish For” with Anatii, which was met with positive reviews from critics.

In 2021, AKA released the EP “Bhovamania” which was well received by fans. He was also nominated for Artist of the Decade at the 10th South African Hip Hop Awards ceremony. In September 2022, he announced his upcoming studio album “Mass Country” and released the lead single “Lemons [Lemonade]” featuring Nasty C.

AKA was a talented rapper who left a lasting impact on the South African music scene. His music will continue to inspire future generations of artists and his contributions to the genre will not be forgotten.
