Precious Molokomme, a 25-year-old woman from Angelo informal settlement in Ekurhuleni, is lucky to be alive after surviving multiple attempts on her life by her ex-boyfriend. Her story is one of resilience and strength, as she now seeks justice for the brutal attack that nearly claimed her life.

The horrifying ordeal began in mid-2024 when Precious decided to end her relationship with her boyfriend. What followed were months of threats and violent attempts on her life. Between July and November, she narrowly escaped being poisoned and stabbed before her ex-boyfriend’s final, most vicious attempt on 17 November.

Recalling the terrifying moments, Precious said her ex-boyfriend tried to poison her by lacing all the food and water in her shack with a suspicious powder. Fortunately, she noticed the undissolved powder, raising her suspicions just in time to save herself. However, the failed attempt didn’t stop him.

“He came back again, this time with a knife,” Precious shared. She told Scrolla.Africa that the man showed up unexpectedly at her shack, pretending to be emotionally distraught, claiming he had just returned from his brother’s funeral. “I later discovered he made up the entire story just to get my sympathy and access to my home,” she said.

After gaining entry, he asked for food. While inside, Precious asked him to help her find a dead rat she believed was hiding in her bed. During this moment, she became uneasy and asked him directly if he planned to kill her. He responded with nothing but laughter.

As she tried to locate the rat, Precious cut open the base of her bed and left the knife on the floor. In a split second, he grabbed the knife, restrained her from behind, and slit her throat.

Her survival came down to sheer luck and the timely arrival of her landlord. He had returned home to change his shoes when he heard Precious’s desperate screams for help. Acting quickly, the landlord intervened, saving her life.

Precious revealed that she had met her attacker on Facebook, where their relationship started. He later moved in with her after relocating from Limpopo in search of work. What began as a hopeful connection soon turned into a nightmare.

The story has since drawn attention from local officials. Ekurhuleni Council Chief Whip, Pelisa Nkunjana, visited Precious and urged young women to speak out against abusive partners. “We strongly encourage women to report any form of abuse to the police. Protecting abusers only enables more violence,” Nkunjana stated.

After months of evading justice, the perpetrator was finally arrested on 28 February. He now faces a charge of attempted murder and is scheduled to appear at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 4 April.

Precious is determined to see justice served and hopes her story will inspire other women facing abuse to come forward and seek help. She believes that no one deserves to suffer in silence, especially at the hands of someone they once trusted.

As Precious continues her recovery, she remains focused on rebuilding her life and raising awareness about gender-based violence.
