Two men, Sifundo Bongani Bhengu (39) and Bongani Freedom Jali (24), from uMlazi, appeared in court facing serious charges after the tragic murder of Wandile Ngcobo. The incident took place in Ngcobo’s home while she was in the midst of studying for her Grade 11 exams.
The accused face multiple charges, including housebreaking with the intent to steal, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and murder. According to the details of the case, Bhengu and Jali are alleged to have broken into Ngcobo’s home with the intention of committing a robbery. Once inside, they are said to have attacked Ngcobo, ultimately killing her during the course of their criminal actions.
Following the murder, the two men reportedly searched the house for valuables. They collected various items, placing them in preparation for transport. The accused then left the scene to arrange for a vehicle to collect the stolen goods. After finding a driver, they returned to the house to load the stolen items into the vehicle.
Among the items stolen from Ngcobo’s home were her Huawei cellphone, an LCD television, a decoder, and several other personal valuables. The crime has left the local community in shock, as the young 17-year-old student was preparing for her exams when her life was tragically cut short.
The accused have been remanded in custody, and the court proceedings are ongoing as they face these grave charges. The case has drawn attention to the growing concerns about crime and safety in the uMlazi area. The community and Ngcobo’s family are eagerly awaiting justice for the young victim.
