Four individuals sustained moderate injuries following a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Inanda Road in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal, early Friday morning.
The accident, which occurred at approximately 07:08 AM, involved a white Toyota Quantum minibus and a white Toyota Corolla sedan. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were quick to arrive on the scene, where they found the two vehicles significantly damaged from the impact.
According to reports from emergency personnel on-site, the incident unfolded when the Toyota Quantum, traveling in the direction of Inanda, attempted to overtake another vehicle. During this maneuver, the minibus collided head-on with the oncoming Toyota Corolla, leading to substantial damage and injuries to the occupants.
The driver of the Corolla and three passengers from the minibus suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Emergency medical teams worked swiftly to stabilize the injured at the scene before they were transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the injured, but it is confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening. The road was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to manage the situation and remove the damaged vehicles.
Eyewitnesses at the scene expressed concern over the frequent accidents on this stretch of Inanda Road, attributing many incidents to reckless driving and speeding. Community members are calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and more frequent patrols in the area to ensure road safety.
While investigations into the exact cause of the collision are still ongoing, initial reports suggest that the taxi driver’s attempt to overtake in an unsafe manner contributed significantly to the crash. Authorities are likely to review CCTV footage and take witness statements to determine whether any charges should be filed.
This incident adds to a growing number of road accidents reported in KwaZulu-Natal, sparking renewed discussions about the need for greater road safety awareness and driver education campaigns.
The public is urged to drive responsibly, adhere to speed limits, and avoid risky maneuvers such as overtaking in areas with poor visibility or heavy traffic. Emergency services emphasized the importance of quick response and proper first aid training, which can significantly improve the outcome of such incidents.
Further updates are expected once the investigation concludes and as the injured parties recover in the hospital.
