Music producer and “Biri Marung” hitmaker Tebogo G Mashego has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after publicly criticising fellow artist DJ Karri. Mashego accused Karri of humiliating him by recording a personal moment when he was stranded abroad, claiming the DJ used the situation for his own publicity rather than genuine support.
The drama unfolded after DJ Karri stepped in to assist Mashego, who was stuck in Nigeria following a missed flight. Karri reportedly helped arrange for the young producer’s return to South Africa. While Mashego expressed gratitude for the assistance, he was furious that cameras were present to capture the moment. According to him, the gesture was diminished by the fact that it was turned into content for social media and reality television.
“What DJ Karri did by bringing cameras to the airport is not right,” Mashego fumed. “He was using such a serious matter to promote his shows. He really helped me come home, but you can’t come with cameras. This issue was serious.” Despite the harsh words, Mashego indicated that he is willing to address the matter privately with Karri, suggesting the fallout might not be permanent.
This public clash comes amid an ongoing storm of disputes between Mashego and other figures in the music industry. Recently, he accused DJ Maphorisa of exploiting him financially, alleging that he was cheated out of royalties for “Biri Marung.” Mashego insists the song’s global success entitles him to millions in unpaid earnings. He also took aim at Sony Music Entertainment, claiming the label was complicit in the alleged exploitation and vowing to take action against them.
Social media has erupted in response to Mashego’s outbursts, with opinions sharply divided. Some sympathised with his frustration over being filmed during a vulnerable moment, while others criticised his constant online rants. Several users suggested that Mashego undermines himself by attacking those who extend a helping hand.

“Karri should have driven him straight home instead of bringing cameras, but Mashego bites every hand that feeds him,” one user wrote. Others went further, questioning his stability, with one commenter stating: “At this point, I’m starting to believe he’s not mentally stable.” Another speculated that his erratic behaviour could be linked to substance abuse.
Some critics pointed out the contradiction in Mashego’s stance, noting that he frequently goes live on Instagram to insult industry peers yet condemns others for recording him. “He doesn’t want cameras at the airport, but every chance he gets, he hosts a livestream,” one comment read.
Amid the backlash, fellow producer Tyler ICU weighed in, urging Mashego to handle his disputes with more professionalism. Tyler suggested that Mashego’s public outbursts may harm his career rather than secure the justice he seeks.
For now, Mashego continues to dominate headlines with his fiery remarks, leaving fans and critics alike questioning whether his confrontational approach will bring him justice—or isolate him further within the industry.
