Fans of SABC1’s hit soapie Generations: The Legacy are bidding farewell to two of their favourite actors, Andile Nebulane and Pearl Noxolo Monama. The talented performers, who have captured audiences’ hearts for years, will be leaving the show, marking the end of an era for the popular drama series.
Nebulane, who plays the sharp and dedicated Detective Malinga, and Monama, known for her role as Dr Siphesihle “Sphe” Cele, have both been central to the show’s compelling storylines. Their departures come just two months after the exit of actress Six Nyamane, who portrayed Nozipho Moroka. Fans took to social media on Thursday to share heartfelt messages and tributes to the duo, expressing sadness over their exit while celebrating their contributions to South African television.
Entertainment commentator Mlu confirmed the news on his X account, reporting that the fan-favourite actors are leaving the SABC1 soapie. The news has sparked a wave of nostalgia and appreciation among viewers, many of whom have followed the actors’ journeys on the show for years.
Interestingly, this is not the first time rumours of Nebulane leaving the show have surfaced. Back in 2021, speculation circulated online that the actor might exit Generations: The Legacy after he took on another project. At the time, Nebulane clarified to Daily Sun that while he was exploring other creative opportunities, he remained committed to the soapie. “As an actor, I am not married to one show. I am working on another local show and behind the scenes creating three others,” he explained. The show’s publicist, Nandipha Phantsi, also confirmed that Nebulane was not leaving, reassuring fans that he would continue his role.
Pearl Monama, who has portrayed Dr Sphe with a mix of grace and determination, reflected on the challenges of evolving with her character. In 2018, she told Sowetan that while playing Dr Cele had been rewarding, it was also demanding to adapt to the character’s growth. “I have really enjoyed my role on the show so far, but the most challenging part has been moving with her through her different situations. When she started she was humble and respectful. Now she is something else,” Monama shared in an interview with TshisaLIVE. Despite facing public criticism and social media backlash, Monama emphasized that the experience had strengthened her resilience as an actress.
Fans also recall the controversy surrounding Nebulane in May 2023, when allegations surfaced accusing him of neglecting his children financially. The actor faced public scrutiny, but many in Mzansi defended him, arguing that such personal matters should not have been aired on social media.
As Generations: The Legacy continues without these beloved stars, audiences will undoubtedly miss their on-screen chemistry and memorable performances. Their departure marks a significant moment for the show, but it also opens the door for new storylines and fresh talent.
Both Nebulane and Monama leave a lasting legacy on South African television, and fans will continue to celebrate their contributions for years to come. Updates on the actors’ next projects are eagerly anticipated, as audiences are keen to follow the next chapters of their careers.
