Vosloorus — Prominent local figure Brown Mogotsi is lucky to be alive after narrowly escaping an alleged assassination attempt in Vosloorus this week. According to reports, Mogotsi’s vehicle came under heavy gunfire from unknown assailants in what appears to have been a targeted attack.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the incident unfolded suddenly, sending shockwaves through the community. Mogotsi’s car was reportedly riddled with bullet holes, yet he miraculously emerged from the ambush without sustaining any injuries. “It’s a miracle he’s alive,” said one onlooker, describing the terrifying moment when multiple gunshots echoed through the area.

Sources close to Mogotsi believe the attack was an orchestrated attempt on his life, although the motive remains unclear at this stage. “He’s shaken but grateful to be alive,” said a friend who requested anonymity for safety reasons. “The fact that he walked away without a scratch is nothing short of divine intervention.”
Police confirmed that an investigation has been launched and that detectives are following several leads. Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Mhlongo said officers were called to the scene shortly after the shooting and found the vehicle with visible damage from multiple gunshots. “We have opened a case of attempted murder and are currently searching for the suspects involved,” she said.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many suspects were involved or whether Mogotsi was traveling alone at the time. Preliminary information suggests that the attackers may have been trailing his car before opening fire and fleeing the scene.

Community members in Vosloorus have expressed concern over the growing number of violent attacks in the area. “It’s becoming scary — we don’t feel safe anymore,” said one resident. “If someone can be shot at in broad daylight, it means no one is safe.”
Social media has been abuzz since news of the attack broke, with many sending messages of support and relief that Mogotsi survived. Others called for the police to intensify their efforts to combat gun violence and bring the perpetrators to justice.
At this stage, police have urged the public to remain calm and report any information that could assist with the investigation. “We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has knowledge of the suspects to come forward,” said Colonel Mhlongo.
While the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, speculation continues to circulate online about possible disputes or tensions that may have led to the attack. However, authorities have warned against spreading unverified information that could compromise the case.
As the investigation unfolds, Mogotsi’s survival has been described by those close to him as “nothing short of a miracle.” The incident has also reignited public concern over the increasing prevalence of targeted shootings in Gauteng, raising questions about safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in curbing violent crime.
Police continue to patrol the area as the search for the gunmen intensifies.
