A tragic shooting at a bus stop in Pretoria North has left two people dead and another fighting for his life. The incident unfolded shortly after 6:30am on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at the Areyeng bus stop on Paul Kruger Street, shocking early morning commuters and residents.
According to preliminary reports, a 38-year-old man driving a white Kia sedan allegedly stopped his vehicle, stepped out with a firearm in hand, and approached a white Nissan Almera occupied by a 28-year-old male driver and a 26-year-old female passenger. Without warning, the suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at the pair before turning the gun on himself.

Tshwane district police spokesman Captain Johan van Dyk confirmed that the woman died at the scene, while the male driver was critically injured.
“Cases of murder, attempted murder, and an inquest have been opened and are under investigation,” Van Dyk said. He added that crime scene experts were gathering crucial evidence, including the firearm used in the attack, which will undergo forensic analysis.
After the shooting, the Nissan Almera reportedly continued rolling forward for almost 150 metres before coming to a stop. Emergency medical services arrived shortly afterward and declared the 26-year-old woman dead at the scene. The driver, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was stabilised and rushed to Kalafong Hospital in critical condition.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and police have not yet confirmed whether the victims and the suspect knew one another. Authorities are now piecing together the events leading up to the attack, hoping that forensic evidence and witness statements will help shed light on what led to such a devastating incident.
Residents of the area expressed shock, describing the scene as traumatic and unsettling. Early morning commuters who witnessed the incident were left shaken, with some reporting that they initially mistook the gunshots for vehicle backfiring before realising the severity of the situation.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasising that community cooperation will be vital as the investigation progresses.
This tragic event adds to growing concerns about violent crime in Pretoria and surrounding areas. Community safety groups have called for increased police visibility, particularly around busy transportation points such as bus stops and taxi routes.
As investigators continue their work, the community mourns the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short, while a young man battles for survival in hospital. The death of the 38-year-old gunman has closed one chapter of the investigation but left many unanswered questions.
Authorities remain committed to uncovering the circumstances behind the shooting, urging patience as they gather facts and pursue justice for the victims.
