South African social media influencer and YouTuber Lasizwe Dambuza has openly shared his struggle with mental health, revealing that he has voluntarily checked himself into a mental wellness facility to focus on healing and recovery. The popular entertainer, known for his humour and vibrant online presence, said the past year has taken a serious toll on his mental well-being.

Taking to social media, Lasizwe explained that he is experiencing burnout and depression, prompting him to seek professional help. In a candid message to his followers, he admitted that the year had been mentally overwhelming and that he could no longer ignore the emotional strain he was under.
“This year has been mentally challenging. I’m burnt out. I’m depressed,” he shared. His honesty struck a chord with fans, many of whom praised him for speaking openly about mental health — a topic still often stigmatized in many communities.
As part of his decision to prioritise his well-being, Lasizwe revealed that he has temporarily handed over control of all his social media platforms to his management team. This step, he explained, would allow him to disconnect fully from online pressures while he focuses on recovery.

“I checked myself into a mental wellness retreat for the next couple of weeks. I’ve handed over my social media accounts to my management, and they will be managing them during my stay,” he wrote.
Lasizwe emphasised the importance of taking mental health seriously, encouraging others to seek support within their communities, families, and friendships. He also urged people not to shy away from professional help when struggling emotionally.
“I wish people could take mental health seriously. Please find someone to speak to about your feelings and emotions. Find professional help,” he said.
The influencer reassured fans that he is surrounded by trained professionals and expressed optimism about his journey ahead. He shared that he is looking forward to returning stronger, healthier, and ready to take on the new year with renewed energy.
This is not the first time Lasizwe has taken a step back to focus on his mental well-being. In December 2024, he made a similar decision, checking into a mental health retreat and temporarily stepping away from social media. His latest move highlights the ongoing nature of mental health challenges and the importance of continuous care.
Following his announcement, several South African celebrities flooded his comment section with messages of love and encouragement. Media personality Khanyi Mbau wrote, “Love you, see you soon,” while Devi Sankaree Govender reassured him, saying, “You’ve got this, my friend.”
Boity also shared a heartfelt message, expressing unwavering support and promising to be there for him when he returns “healthier and stronger.” Actress Tembi Seete added her voice, sending love and positive energy.
Lasizwe’s announcement comes during a difficult time in the entertainment industry, following the tragic death of DJ Warras earlier this week. Against this backdrop, his openness serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of prioritising mental health, even in the face of public pressure and personal loss.
By choosing to step back and focus on healing, Lasizwe continues to use his platform not only to entertain, but also to spark important conversations about mental wellness in South Africa.
