A tragic and violent incident has left two taxi drivers dead after a confrontation with a motorist escalated into a deadly shooting, sending shockwaves through the local community and reigniting debate around rising tensions on the roads.
According to preliminary reports, the incident began when two taxi drivers allegedly noticed a small private vehicle transporting passengers. Suspecting that the car was operating as an illegal taxi, the drivers reportedly decided to follow it. What may have started as an attempt to enforce what they believed were transport regulations soon spiralled into a fatal encounter.

The private vehicle was driven by a man identified as Khanyile, who was reportedly on his way to a medical appointment. Earlier, he had picked up his father and cousin from a nearby stop after learning that his father was unwell and required urgent medical attention. The passengers were said to be family members, not paying customers.
Shortly after leaving the area, Khanyile allegedly noticed a taxi following him closely, flashing its headlights repeatedly. Believing the behaviour to be aggressive, he reportedly hooted in response while continuing to drive. Moments later, the situation intensified when a second taxi allegedly overtook his vehicle at high speed and abruptly stopped in front of him, effectively blocking his path.
Reports indicate that the drivers of the two taxis exited their vehicles and confronted Khanyile, accusing him of unlawfully transporting passengers. Khanyile is said to have explained that the passengers were his relatives and that he was not operating as a taxi. Despite this explanation, the confrontation allegedly became increasingly hostile.
It is claimed that the taxi drivers attempted to force open the doors of Khanyile’s car, which were locked. As tensions escalated, one of the men allegedly picked up a brick and smashed the front window of the vehicle. At this point, Khanyile reportedly feared for his life, believing he was under imminent threat.
In response, Khanyile allegedly retrieved a licensed firearm from inside the vehicle and fired shots at the two taxi drivers. Both men were reportedly shot in the head and were declared dead at the scene by emergency services. The shocking nature of the incident has left bystanders and residents reeling.
Police have since cordoned off the scene and launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are expected to examine claims of self-defence, the sequence of events leading up to the confrontation, and whether any laws were broken by those involved. No arrests had been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing friction between private motorists and members of the taxi industry, a long-standing issue in many parts of the country. Community leaders have called for calm, urging all road users to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than violence.
As investigations continue, the families of the deceased are left mourning a devastating loss, while the broader community grapples with yet another reminder of how quickly everyday disputes can turn deadly.
