A tragic shooting in Cape Town has left a family mourning the loss of 19-year-old Litha Govuza, who was gunned down while trying to buy food at a local tuckshop.
The incident happened in the Driftsands area, under the Mfuleni policing precinct. According to reports, Govuza and a friend were waiting for their order at a spaza shop when a vehicle pulled up nearby. Three armed men allegedly got out and opened fire on the two young men without warning.
Govuza was shot multiple times in the upper body, while his friend was wounded in the legs. Both victims were rushed to hospital, but Govuza was sadly declared dead on arrival. His friend is believed to be recovering from his injuries.

Police suspect the attack may be linked to ongoing criminal activity in the area, including extortion-related violence. There are also claims that the killing could be connected to gang-related activity, which has raised further concern among residents.
The tragedy has been made even more disturbing by reports that the shooting was filmed. It is alleged that one of the suspects recorded the incident while another carried out the attack. The video has since circulated on social media, leaving Govuza’s family deeply traumatised.
Speaking after the incident, the family described their heartbreak and confusion over why he was targeted. They insist that Govuza was a respectful young man who was not involved in crime and had been focused on building a better future for himself. His loved ones say he had dreams of continuing his studies and improving his life.
His sister shared the emotional pain of seeing the video circulating online, saying it is unbearable to witness his final moments in such a brutal way. The family has also expressed frustration over the lack of arrests, questioning why no suspects have been brought to justice.

Community members have rallied around the grieving family, offering support and calling for swift action from authorities. Many residents say they are living in fear as violent incidents continue to affect the area.
Police have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the suspects. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities say they are following up on leads that could help solve the case.
Despite this, Govuza’s family says they feel unsafe and let down as they wait for answers. They are urging anyone with information to come forward, hoping it will lead to arrests and justice.
The killing of Litha Govuza highlights the growing concern over violent crime affecting young people in parts of the Western Cape. For his family, the focus now remains on seeking justice and ensuring that his life is remembered, not just the way it was tragically taken.
