The community of Parkside in the Eastern Cape has been left shaken and heartbroken following the brutal murder of seven-year-old Kenisha Thompson, whose lifeless body was discovered at a dumpsite just a short distance from her home. The devastating incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for urgent action to protect children from violence.
According to reports, Kenisha was last seen playing with friends on Saturday before she suddenly went missing. Her disappearance immediately raised alarm when her father, Jason Martin, returned home and could not find her. After searching nearby areas and questioning her friends, who were unable to provide clear answers, he reported her missing to the police.

The situation took a tragic turn on Sunday when police, along with search and rescue teams, discovered Kenisha’s body dumped in a nearby area. The discovery sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents devastated and fearful.
Eastern Cape Social Development MEC Bukiwe Fanta expressed deep sorrow and anger over the young girl’s death. She described the incident as not only a heartbreaking loss for the family but also a tragedy that has deeply affected the entire community.
Kenisha’s father shared his pain, describing his daughter as a vibrant young girl who had her whole life ahead of her. Her sudden and violent death has left a void that can never be filled, highlighting the harsh reality of crimes targeting vulnerable children.
Police spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala revealed further details surrounding the incident. It is believed that Kenisha and her friends had gone to a nearby spaza shop to buy snacks when they were approached by an unknown man. While the other children eventually left, Kenisha remained behind. Disturbingly, the other children did not inform her grandmother that she had been left alone.
When questioned later, the children told Kenisha’s father about the man who had spoken to her. This information led to a frantic search, but it was too late to prevent the tragic outcome.
Authorities have confirmed that a case of murder has been opened, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect responsible for this horrific crime.
This tragedy comes just days after another shocking incident in the province, where the burnt body of 30-year-old Zovuyo Mbana was found dumped along the N6. These back-to-back cases have raised serious concerns about escalating violence, particularly against women and children.
MEC Fanta has called for a thorough investigation and urged community members to remain vigilant. She emphasized the importance of reporting suspicious activities and working together to ensure the safety of children.
She also highlighted the urgent need for stronger community programmes focused on violence prevention, family support, and child safety education. According to her, creating a safe and nurturing environment for children must become a priority.
As the community mourns the loss of young Kenisha, calls for justice continue to grow louder. Residents are demanding swift action from law enforcement and stronger measures to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Kenisha Thompson’s death is a painful reminder of the dangers facing children and the urgent need for collective action. Her story has touched many hearts, and her memory now stands as a call for change, accountability, and protection for the most vulnerable members of society.
