Two sisters are facing serious criminal charges after they were allegedly involved in the killing of their 62-year-old mother in a case that has shocked the community. The sisters are accused of arranging their mother’s death in an alleged attempt to benefit from an insurance payout worth approximately R80,000.
According to the allegations before the Mbombela High Court, the elderly woman was kidnapped and subjected to a brutal attack before she was killed. It is alleged that the sisters worked with accomplices who assaulted and raped their mother before strangling her.

Investigators believe the alleged motive was financial, with the accused sisters allegedly hoping to claim death benefits from their mother’s insurance policy following her death.
The prosecution’s case is that the woman’s death was not an accident, despite an apparent attempt to make it appear that she had been struck by a train. After the alleged attack, the suspects reportedly transported her body and placed it on a railway line.
The positioning of the body allegedly formed part of an attempt to mislead investigators into believing that the woman had been killed in a railway accident. However, the alleged plan was disrupted when a passerby reportedly noticed the sisters and their accomplices while they were dealing with the body.
The discovery is believed to have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and ultimately contributed to the investigation that led to the accused appearing in court.
The case has since made its way to the Mbombela High Court, where the allegations against the sisters and their alleged accomplices are being examined.
The prosecution will have to present evidence to establish the circumstances leading up to the woman’s death, including the alleged motive, the role each accused person is believed to have played, and the events surrounding the disposal of her body.
The insurance payout is expected to be an important aspect of the state’s case as investigators seek to establish whether the R80,000 benefit was indeed the reason behind the alleged killing.
The case has also drawn attention because of the disturbing allegations surrounding the victim’s final moments. The woman was reportedly subjected to multiple forms of violence before she was strangled, making the matter particularly serious.
As the proceedings continue, the accused remain entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until the court finds them guilty. The state must prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Mbombela High Court will continue hearing evidence as the prosecution seeks to establish what happened to the 62-year-old woman and whether her daughters were responsible for planning or participating in her death.
The proceedings are expected to shed further light on the alleged insurance motive, the involvement of the other suspects and the circumstances under which the woman’s body was found on the railway line.
