A heartbreaking tragedy has left the Kanana community near Orkney in the North West mourning the death of seven-year-old Relebohile Princess Mokhoke, who allegedly died after being stabbed by her 23-year-old uncle on 15 June 2026.
According to the information surrounding the incident, Relebohile was at a family home when an argument or confrontation reportedly took a devastating turn. It is alleged that her uncle forced the young girl into a bathroom and locked the door, leaving family members deeply concerned for her safety.
The family reportedly fled the house to seek assistance and alert the police. When officers arrived at the property, they allegedly heard the young girl screaming from inside the locked bathroom.
Police are said to have forced their way into the bathroom, where they found Relebohile with multiple stab wounds. Among the injuries was a severe wound to her neck.
The child was immediately taken to a local clinic in an attempt to save her life. However, despite efforts to treat her serious injuries, Relebohile later succumbed to her wounds.
The tragedy reportedly did not end there. After the young girl had been removed from the bathroom, her uncle allegedly locked himself inside the same room. Police were once again forced to break down the door.
Officers reportedly found the 23-year-old man with multiple stab wounds that appeared to have been self-inflicted. The injuries were reportedly to his neck, chest and stomach. He was declared dead at the scene.
The circumstances leading up to the devastating incident remain deeply disturbing, and the loss of a child has left relatives and community members struggling to come to terms with what happened.
Relebohile’s death has also highlighted the vulnerability of children and the importance of ensuring that young people are protected from violence within the spaces where they should feel safest.
