The excitement is building as Big Brother Mzansi Season 5, titled Umlilo, reaches its grand finale on Sunday, 23 March 2025. After two months of intense competition, drama, and entertainment, one lucky housemate will walk away with the coveted R2 million prize.
The season kicked off on 21 January 2025 with 20 contestants, but only five have made it to the final week. The top five finalists are Akhonamathemba “Sweet Guluva” Mbele (23), Uyanda Hlangabezo (24), Nsuku Mabunda (29), Fortunate “Nate” Setwaba (26), and Karabo “Jojo” Sejojo (22).
Among them, Sweet Guluva has stood out as a strong contender and a fan favorite. His charming personality and strategic gameplay have earned him massive support from both viewers and celebrities. Notable names like Ukhozi FM legend Dudu “Lady D” Khoza, award-winning DJ Zinhle, and former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu have publicly endorsed him.https://x.com/Temitope202266/status/1902595949504926181?t=Rnu9QsU0Nj9cuTW–BJYkg&s=19
On social media, Sweet Guluva’s name has trended consistently as fans rally behind him. His supporters have been campaigning tirelessly, encouraging the public to vote and secure his win. However, this aggressive support is now causing some backlash.
Prominent media personality Somizi Mhlongo has voiced concerns that Sweet Guluva’s overzealous fans might actually hurt his chances of winning. Taking to social media, Somizi expressed his frustration, saying that while he wants Sweet Guluva to win, fans are focusing too much on talking and campaigning instead of simply voting.
“Wake up and vote. Sweet Guluva might not win because of campaigning too much. It’s hurting me. We need to be serious and vote. Stop talking too much and do the voting nkosiyami. I really want Sweet Guluva to win, he is a good guy,” Somizi shared.
Somizi isn’t the only one feeling this way. Controversial content creator Matthew Lani also weighed in, posting a TikTok video where he mocked the relentless campaigning by Sweet Guluva’s fans. Lani admitted to voting for Sweet Guluva despite not even having access to DStv or watching the show. He sarcastically remarked, “Can Sunday come already so this person can get his R2 million and finish it? We’ll probably see him in I Blew It next.”
The growing irritation over Sweet Guluva’s fans dominating online spaces has sparked debates. Some fear that this negative attention could cost him the win, while others believe his large fan base still has the power to secure him victory if they focus on voting.
As the final votes come in, South Africans are left wondering: Will Sweet Guluva’s massive popularity carry him to the R2 million prize, or will the backlash from aggressive campaigning ruin his chances?
All will be revealed on Sunday night when Big Brother Mzansi Season 5 crowns its winner.
