A controversial claim by self-proclaimed prophet Brother Enigma has caused a stir online after he alleged that the late Ukhozi FM presenter, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, is “burning in hell.” However, Zanele’s husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, has firmly rejected these claims, calling them “madness” and saying he will not dignify them with a response.

Brother Enigma, whose real name is Phillip Thosa, is a self-identified man of God who frequently claims to have visions of heaven and hell. In his latest vision, he alleges that he saw Zanele Mbokazi suffering in the afterlife.

“I saw fire and smoke. Jesus opened my spiritual eyes, and I saw people in hell raising their hands—nothing but bones,” said Enigma. “A voice came through from someone in the flames. She said her name was Zanele Mbokazi. She was crying and asking me to tell all pastors’ wives to wear something on their heads.”

Enigma further stated that in his vision, Zanele’s voice faded after delivering the message, but he insists he clearly heard her plea multiple times. His claim has caused outrage and disbelief from many, especially those close to the late presenter.

Zanele Mbokazi, widely respected in the media and gospel music communities, passed away in August 2024 at the age of 52 after a long struggle with lung cancer. She was not only a beloved radio host on Ukhozi FM but also the founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards, where she played a pivotal role in promoting gospel talent across South Africa.

Her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, responded with firm disapproval of Enigma’s statement. “I don’t know this man. I’ve never heard of him, and I will not entertain this nonsense,” he told Daily Sun. “I don’t have time to validate madness.”

Many South Africans, especially those in religious circles, have come to Zanele’s defense, describing Enigma’s statements as disrespectful and attention-seeking. Critics argue that using the name of a respected public figure who recently passed away to promote supposed visions is both insensitive and unverified.

Enigma, known for making sensational religious claims, has stirred controversy before. While he insists that his visions are divinely inspired, religious leaders and the general public have often criticized him for spreading fear and misinformation under the guise of prophecy.

Meanwhile, Bishop Nkambule remains focused on preserving his wife’s legacy and continues her work through gospel initiatives and community programs. “Zanele lives through Thembeka and everything she built,” he said in reference to the organization they led together.

The debate has reignited questions about how society should respond to so-called prophetic visions—especially when they involve deceased public figures. As the story continues to unfold, many are calling for more sensitivity, especially when speaking about the dead.
