Kwaito artist Sipho “Brickz” Ndlovu remains incarcerated—despite viral rumors and social media chatter suggesting otherwise. The singer is not roaming free, and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed that the reports of his release are false.
The Conviction and Sentence
Brickz was convicted in July 2017 by the Roodepoort Magistrates Court for the rape of his teenage niece in 2013. Later that year, in October, he received a 15-year prison sentence.
Time Served, But No Freedom Yet
As of now, Brickz has served just over 8 years of his 15-year sentence, which means he’s crossed the halfway point. This milestone qualifies him to be considered for parole, but the DCS insists he remains in custody. The department has stated the persistent rumours of him being out are untrue.
The Rumours That Sparked the Frenzy
Several events triggered the speculation:
- Clips allegedly showing Brickz active on TikTok.
- A video surfaced of him wearing a graduation gown, claimed to be from Boston City Campus with a Political Science qualification.
- A recording featuring him and fellow inmates performing a gospel song from Leeuwkop Prison. Some interpreted this as an attempt to shape public perception ahead of possible parole.
From Stardom to Scandal
Brickz rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like Sweety My Baby and Tjovitjo. But his music career has since been overshadowed by the gravity of his crime, the long sentence, and these swirling rumours.
