The search for three missing police officers has taken a tragic turn with the discovery of five bodies in Centurion, Tshwane. The officers—Constable Cebekhulu Linda, Constable Keamogetswe Buys, and Constable Boipelo Senoge—went missing while traveling from Bloemfontein in the Free State to their deployment post in Limpopo.
The investigation led authorities to the N1 highway near the Hennops River, where a major police search operation has been ongoing. National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that five bodies have been recovered so far. Forensic teams are conducting fingerprint analyses to identify the deceased, with confirmation expected soon. Families of the missing officers are being transported to Tshwane for formal identification once results are verified.
Brigadier Mathe emphasized the importance of providing families with accurate information. “We want to ensure that, when the families arrive in Tshwane, we can give them solid confirmation regarding whether the deceased are their loved ones or not,” she said.
As part of the investigation, a Renault Kangoo vehicle was also found in the area. Authorities are working to determine if there is any connection between the vehicle and the discovered bodies. Police have deployed maximum resources to the scene, including forensic experts, sniffer dogs, and an air wing unit to assist in the extensive search operation.
Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola and Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya have visited the scene and received briefings from the investigation team. They are also expected to meet with the families of the missing officers and address the media once further information is available.
Lieutenant-General Sibiya revealed that one of the five recovered bodies was that of a white male, found on the opposite side of the Hennops River during the ongoing search. It is currently unclear if this individual is connected to the three missing officers or if his discovery is a separate case.
The disappearance of the officers was first reported when they failed to arrive at their destination in Limpopo. Their last known location was at an Engen garage near the Grasmere toll plaza on the N1 highway on Wednesday, 23 April.
The tragic development has shocked communities across the country, especially as the nation awaits confirmation of the identities of the deceased. Police continue to work tirelessly to uncover the truth and bring closure to the families involved.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities urge the public to remain patient and respectful during this sensitive time. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
