In a tragic accident in Mpumalanga, five people were killed and burnt beyond recognition, while another person was critically injured when a car overturned and caught fire in the early hours of Sunday morning, September 15, 2024.

The vehicle, which was carrying six passengers, overturned on the D2945 Road between Mgobobodzi and Madadeni at approximately 3:00 a.m. After overturning, the car ignited, engulfing the victims in flames. Five of the occupants died at the scene, their bodies burnt beyond recognition, while the sixth passenger was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison confirmed the details of the incident. The department also announced that an investigation into the cause of the crash was underway, though no official explanation has been provided yet.
