Controversial traditional healer and reality TV star Gogo Maweni has once again stirred public debate after revealing that she used witchcraft on her former partner, the late Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyabonga Zulu. Known for her appearance on the reality show Izangoma Zodumo, Maweni made this shocking confession during an episode of the popular Podcast and Chill series.
When questioned about the long-standing rumors of her practicing witchcraft on her former partners, Maweni admitted to using “muti” on Zulu, the father of one of her children. She claimed that her actions were a response to Zulu’s betrayal and lack of appreciation after she had significantly supported his personal and professional life.
According to Maweni, she helped Zulu during difficult times, including paying off a staggering R45,000 nightclub bill and allowing him to use her car—an act she later regretted after he allegedly crashed it and abandoned it in Soweto. She also revealed that she stood by him as he progressed in his soccer career, but in return, he cheated and disrespected her.
“I honestly bewitched him,” Maweni confessed. “Well, maybe ‘bewitched’ is a strong word. Let’s just say I taught him a lesson. I helped him, uplifted him, but once he got to a better place in life, he forgot about me. He became arrogant and unfaithful.”
Maweni expressed her frustration at Zulu’s behavior, highlighting the strain caused not only by his infidelity but also by his allegedly toxic family. “You can’t play for a weak team while I’m the one taking care of you. Then you cheat and act like I mean nothing,” she added.
Perhaps the most unsettling part of her admission came when she claimed she cast a spell on Zulu that caused him to associate money with alcohol. “In my show on Mzansi Magic, I said it—every time he holds money, he thinks of drinking,” she explained. This, she said, was her way of getting back at him for everything he put her through.
Tragically, Siyabonga Zulu passed away in a car accident on February 16, 2024. At the time of his death, he was playing for Phezulu FC in the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League. His sudden death shocked the local football community and brought renewed attention to his tumultuous personal life.
Gogo Maweni’s candidness about her spiritual practices has sparked mixed reactions across South Africa. While some view her as bold and unapologetically honest, others believe her actions cross ethical lines and should not be celebrated. Regardless, her revelations have once again thrust her into the national spotlight—this time for a confession that blurs the line between traditional beliefs and personal revenge.
As the debate continues, Maweni remains unfazed, standing firm in her truth while reigniting discussions around the use of traditional healing and its role in modern relationships.
