The highly publicized court case involving controversial sangoma Gogo Maweni (real name Makgotso Mofokeng) has once again been postponed. The hearing, which was set to proceed at the Protea Magistrates’ Court in Soweto on 22 October, was delayed due to technical issues that caused a system failure within the court’s servers.
The case has now been rescheduled for 21 January 2026, when the prosecution is expected to present additional evidence against the celebrity traditional healer. This marks yet another delay in a case that has lingered for years, frustrating both the state and observers who have followed the proceedings closely.
The matter dates back to 2019, when Gogo Maweni was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman believed to be associated with her ex-partner. She was released on R5 000 bail following her initial appearance in court on 17 January of that year. Since then, her case has seen multiple postponements, with each appearance drawing significant attention due to her public profile and controversial reputation on social media.
In June 2025, her previous court date was also postponed after her legal representative, Advocate Riaan Gissing, requested a delay on medical grounds. At that time, Maweni was reportedly 29 weeks pregnant with twins, and her defense provided the court with hospital documentation to justify her absence. The court accepted the request and granted a postponement to allow her to recover.

Known for her outspoken personality and lavish lifestyle, Gogo Maweni has built a large following online, where she frequently shares glimpses into her personal and spiritual life. Despite her ongoing legal troubles, she remains active on social media and continues to post motivational and reflective messages to her fans.
In a recent post, she looked back on her tumultuous year with gratitude, writing:
“2025 started with me getting arrested, which I’m grateful for because it was the greatest eye-opener.”
She went on to express pride in her achievements, saying that by her 39th birthday, she had accomplished much, including owning multiple cars, her own home, a traditional spa, and the birth of her beloved twins.
Her supporters have continued to rally behind her, sending words of encouragement and praising her for her resilience amid legal challenges. Others, however, have criticized what they perceive as preferential treatment due to her celebrity status, questioning the repeated delays in her case.
With the next court appearance scheduled for January 2026, the public and media are keenly awaiting the outcome and any new evidence the prosecution may bring forward. For now, Gogo Maweni continues to balance her responsibilities as a healer, entrepreneur, and mother while navigating the uncertainties of her long-running legal battle.
