JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s gospel music community is mourning the loss of legendary singer Solly Moholo, who passed away on the evening of 2 October 2024. The iconic artist succumbed to complications following a stroke and multiple organ failure after battling illness for some time.
His team confirmed the heartbreaking news, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned decades. Solly Moholo’s soulful voice and deeply inspiring music resonated with fans across South Africa and beyond, making him a beloved figure in the gospel music scene.
Renowned for timeless hits such as *Ke Latlhile Bokinza* and *Robala ka Khotso*, Moholo had recently been hospitalized after falling ill during a pre-album launch tour in Botswana. In a statement from the Molokoane family, his passing was shared with his fans:
“It is with great sadness that we inform you, on behalf of the Molokoane family, that our beloved legend, Solly Moholo, has passed on.” The statement went on to highlight his hospitalization following his illness, which tragically led to his passing.
The family expressed their grief and profound sense of loss, saying, “May his laughter continue to echo through the walls of heaven. Mphoza Mashabela, Provincial Chairperson of the Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM), expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “We lost Oleseng Shuping, Kenny Makweng, and now Solly Moholo. I’m heartbroken.” Mashabela also praised Moholo’s pivotal role in the Sione music genre, which had gained significant popularity, especially in Limpopo.
Moholo had been slated to perform as a guest artist at the Limpopo Legends Awards, an event that would have celebrated his profound impact on South Africa’s gospel music landscape.
