An 18-year-old girl has shared her heartbreaking experience after her highly anticipated matric dance — a night meant to celebrate the end of her school journey — was completely ruined by her designer.
The young woman, who had been eagerly waiting for this once-in-a-lifetime event, revealed that she received her dress only at 9 PM, a mere 30 minutes before the matric dance ended. By then, it was too late for her to attend, leaving her in tears and heartbroken.
According to her account, she had trusted a local designer known as Ntsike Ensemble to bring her dream dress to life. However, what was supposed to be an exciting collaboration quickly turned into a stressful nightmare. The teen explained that her designer was rude and dismissive throughout the entire process, showing little concern for her feelings or the importance of the event.
“I was so excited for my matric dance. I had planned everything — my hair, makeup, and even my transport — but none of that mattered because I didn’t have my dress,” she shared tearfully. “I kept calling and texting, but I was ignored most of the day. When the dress finally arrived, it was already too late. I just sat there and cried.”

The situation struck a chord online after the teen posted her story on social media, where she expressed both her disappointment and her conflicting emotions about still wanting to support black-owned businesses, despite her devastating experience.
“Let’s support black business 😭😭😭,” she wrote in her caption, highlighting the painful irony of her ordeal. Her post quickly went viral, with many users offering words of comfort and anger towards the unprofessional conduct she endured.
Others, however, reminded followers that while it’s important to uplift and support small and black-owned businesses, accountability and professionalism should never be overlooked. “Support doesn’t mean we must tolerate bad service,” one user commented. “You can be black-owned and still deliver excellence.”
The incident has sparked a wider conversation about the growing number of complaints against local designers and service providers who fail to deliver on time — especially during major milestones like matric dances, weddings, and graduations.
For many young South Africans, the matric dance marks a significant rite of passage — a celebration of hard work, perseverance, and the transition into adulthood. Missing out on that night due to someone else’s negligence can be deeply traumatic.
As of now, the designer has not publicly responded to the allegations or the emotional social media posts. Meanwhile, the teen says she is still struggling to come to terms with the disappointment but hopes her story serves as a lesson to others.
“I just want people to take their work seriously,” she said. “For me, this was more than just a dress — it was supposed to be a memory I’d keep forever.”
