Tragic Accident at Saxby Avenue and R101

A devastating car accident at the intersection of Saxby Avenue and the R101 in Centurion claimed the life of a one-year-old girl after the vehicle crashed into a tree and caught fire on March 14.

Emergency responders, including Emer-G-Med medics Melinda Naude and Sinjin Grant-Smith, arrived at the scene to assist the injured. Several children sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

Multiple Children Injured

Naude confirmed that multiple children were hurt in the crash. Some were rushed to Netcare Unitas Hospital, while others were taken to Kalafong Hospital. However, emergency services could not immediately confirm whether all the injured individuals had been inside the vehicle at the time of impact.

Another emergency service provider at the scene reported that the car collided directly with a tree and burst into flames at approximately 17:15.

Critical Condition of Victims

Upon arrival, medics discovered three critically injured children: a one-year-old, a five-year-old, and a 15-year-old. Rescuers worked desperately to stabilize them and performed CPR on the two youngest victims before transporting them to Unitas Hospital.

Sadly, despite multiple attempts to resuscitate the infant at the hospital, the child was later declared dead. The five-year-old and 15-year-old remain hospitalized as they receive ongoing medical care.
