Mpumalanga, South Africa – A shocking incident has left residents of Swalala reeling after a 29-year-old man was discovered sleeping next to human bones believed to belong to his late father and grandfather. The suspect was arrested by police and is expected to appear in court on charges related to the violation of graves.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdluli, the bizarre case unfolded on Monday, April 28, when a concerned local woman arrived at the Masoyi Police Station. She reported that two adjacent graves had been dug up at a cemetery in the area. Police officers were immediately dispatched to investigate the complaint.
Upon arrival at the cemetery, police confirmed the graves had indeed been disturbed. The graves were later identified as those of the suspect’s father and grandfather, who were both buried in 2010. Authorities acted swiftly and began searching for the individual reportedly responsible for the desecration.
The man was soon located at his home in the RDP housing section of Swalala. Officers were stunned to find the suspect asleep in his bed with the unearthed bones beside him. Brigadier Mdluli described the scene as disturbing and deeply troubling.
“In a shocking turn of events, the suspect was found asleep with what appeared to be human bones next to him in bed,” Mdluli said. “The bones are believed to be those of his father and grandfather.”
The police immediately took the man into custody. The bones were confiscated and handed over as evidence for the ongoing investigation. The motive behind the suspect’s actions remains unclear at this point, and psychological evaluations may be conducted to assess his mental state.
The man is facing serious charges, including violation of graves, and is scheduled to appear in the Masoyi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, April 30.
