The South African music industry is once again caught in controversy after rising star MaWhoo publicly addressed explosive claims made by producer Tebogo G Mashego regarding her alleged relationship with Amapiano heavyweight DJ Maphorisa.
Mashego, best known for producing the hit Biri Marung, has been vocal in his ongoing feud with Maphorisa, accusing him of withholding royalties and exploiting artists. In one of his recent social media live streams on 23 September 2025, Mashego went further, dragging other artists into the drama—including MaWhoo.
According to Mashego, MaWhoo’s career success was not solely based on her talent but rather on a personal relationship with Maphorisa, whom fans affectionately call “Porry.” The controversial producer alleged that before MaWhoo became a nationwide sensation, she was romantically and sexually involved with Maphorisa.
“Before MaWhoo became a celebrity, she was Porry’s girlfriend. Porry and MaWhoo were sexually involved before she was a celebrity,” Mashego claimed during his live session.
This statement quickly ignited social media discussions, with many weighing in on the speculation. To add fuel to the fire, Piano Pulse host Sfiso Ndlovu echoed similar claims on their podcast, pointing out that MaWhoo had been spotted driving a luxurious white Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon allegedly belonging to Maphorisa.
“MaWhoo is driving a white G-Wagon. That’s Porry’s money. I know Porry’s money when I see it,” Ndlovu said, suggesting that Maphorisa may have funded her lifestyle.
MaWhoo Responds
Not one to let the allegations linger, MaWhoo took to Facebook later that same day to firmly deny the rumours. In her post, she dismissed the claims as baseless, making it clear that she had never been romantically or sexually involved with Maphorisa—or anyone else in the entertainment industry.
“I’ve never dated or been ‘chowed’ by anyone in the industry,” she wrote.
Her statement was intended to put the matter to rest, but many social media users remained unconvinced. Some argued that her denial only raised more questions, while others outright accused her of lying.
