A shocking case of matricide has surfaced in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, where a mother is accused of hiring hitmen to murder her son in a bid to collect a life insurance payout. The 49-year-old woman, identified as Shaydhieda Dollie, faces serious charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder after allegedly plotting the death of her 22-year-old son, Moegamat Thaafir Dollie. The incident, which has stunned the community, occurred on 28 October 2024.

The Alleged Plot and Motive

Shaydhieda Dollie, who resides in Gelvandale, was reportedly struggling with her son’s drug addiction and disruptive behavior, which had become a burden in their household. According to Luxolo Tyali, spokesperson for the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) in the Eastern Cape, Dollie sought advice from others about how to deal with the situation. She was allegedly given a chilling suggestion—a “permanent solution” to her problem.

After consulting with two individuals, known only as “Shaun” and “Oompie,” Dollie reportedly hatched a plan to have her son killed. She hired hitmen from Johannesburg, initially offering them R80,000 for the job. However, this amount eventually increased to R380,000 as the plan unfolded over time, due to Dollie’s delays in executing the scheme.

### The Plan Unraveled

The twisted plot took a tragic turn when Dollie lured her son with the false promise of a job interview. Once he was in the custody of the hired killers, the hitmen allegedly carried out the murder. The motive behind the crime was purportedly to collect R2 million in life insurance money, which Dollie intended to use to pay the hitmen.

Tyali confirmed that the state is opposing bail, and the case has been postponed to 15 November 2024 for further proceedings, including the verification of the accused’s profile. The court has yet to rule on whether Dollie will remain in custody while awaiting trial.

### Shock and Horror in the Community

The community in Gqeberha has been left in disbelief at the gruesome nature of the crime. The notion that a mother would orchestrate the death of her own son for financial gain has shocked many, and the case is garnering widespread media attention. The motive of financial desperation and the cold-hearted manner in which the murder was planned have left many questioning how far some individuals are willing to go for money.

### Legal Proceedings and Public Reaction

Shaydhieda Dollie’s arrest has raised important questions about the lengths to which people will go when faced with personal difficulties or financial struggles. While the case is still under investigation, authorities are treating it as a clear case of premeditated murder. The trial will reveal more details about the nature of Dollie’s relationship with her son and the full extent of her involvement in the crime.

As the case continues to unfold, the local community and wider public await further updates, with many eager to see justice served for the tragic loss of Moegamat Thaafir Dollie.

This case serves as a grim reminder of the destructive consequences that can result from financial desperation and unresolved family conflicts. The outcome of this trial will likely have significant implications for how similar cases are handled in the future.
