After weeks of speculation and uncertainty, the popular South African soap opera Muvhango has officially announced its return for a highly anticipated 27th season. The show’s executive producer, Duma Ka Ndlovu, revealed the news at a launch event held on July 25, 2024, at Chartwell in Johannesburg.

 

Ndlovu confirmed that the new season will premiere on August 5, 2024, and promised that it will be the most dramatic season yet. The show will undergo a significant transformation, including a fresh logo and updated title sequence, to appeal to a younger and more fashionable audience.

In addition to the new look, the show will also feature a mix of familiar faces and new characters. Some of the returning characters include Lloyd Nedohe, who last appeared on the show over a decade ago, as well as Lebo Elle Tisane and Wiseman Zitha.

The show will also welcome new talent, including young actor Tyson Mathonsi and Liteboho Molise, who will bring a fresh wave of villainy to the series.

Furthermore, the show will see the return of Leleti Kumalo, a talented actress known for her role in the iconic production Sarafina! Ndlovu expressed his excitement about the new season, stating that the show will maintain its core value of storytelling while reinventing itself to appeal to a new generation of viewers.

Jacqui Hlongwane, the acting head of the channel at SABC2, also expressed her enthusiasm for the new direction Muvhango is taking. She stated that the public broadcaster is thrilled to support Muvhango in its exciting transformation and looks forward to the fresh energy and captivating storytelling it promises to bring to viewers.

With its long-standing history and cultural significance, Muvhango’s return marks a renewed commitment to elevating South African soap operas. Fans can eagerly anticipate the premiere on August 5, 2024, and enjoy the exciting new chapter in the show’s journey.
