Actress Opens Up About Hardships

South African actress Pebetsi Matlaila, widely known for her role in Skeem Saam, recently revealed that she and her two children have been forced to live in a shelter due to severe financial struggles. In an emotional Instagram video shared on Wednesday, she explained that after months of being unable to pay rent, she was evicted from her rental home despite her mother’s efforts to assist.

Pebetsi admitted she had been doing freelance work to make ends meet, but it wasn’t enough to sustain her family.

Seeking Shelter and Finding Support

Now staying at a women and children’s safety house, Pebetsi assured her followers that they are safe and being well cared for.

“Me and my children are at a shelter. A woman and children safety house. We feel safe here. Everything is provided for,” she shared.

The actress also revealed the immense emotional toll the situation has taken on her.

“I was losing it. Probably having a nervous breakdown. I shouldn’t have come on social media, but I had to accept my situation and also drive my own narrative.”

She confessed to spending sleepless nights crying while her children were asleep, feeling completely isolated and without anyone to talk to.

“All I needed was someone to hear me out. But at the end of the day, everyone has their own problems to deal with, and I didn’t want to burden anyone with mine.”

A Silver Lining: Job Offers and Donations

Following her heartfelt post, Pebetsi received overwhelming support from her followers. Many reached out with words of encouragement, financial assistance, and even job opportunities.

To her surprise, one of these opportunities not only promised her a stable income but also provided her with a car.

“I did not just get a job to sustain my children. I got a job that will also give me a car. I didn’t expect that. I cannot believe how things are turning around for me.”

Gratitude for Help Received

Pebetsi expressed deep gratitude to those who extended a helping hand, including anonymous donors who provided financial aid, work resources, and psychological support for her children.

“Words cannot begin to explain how grateful I am for the love, the gifts (laptop to do online work and sponsors to print more books), and the financial help offered by some of you.”

She reassured her supporters that every contribution, no matter how small, made a significant impact on her journey toward rebuilding her life.

Taking Time to Heal

As she prepares for a fresh start, Pebetsi announced that she would be taking a social media break to reflect and heal.

“Last, I will go on a sabbatical (fast in thanksgiving), which means I will be offline for some time. But those who have my numbers know where to find me.”

Despite her hardships, Pebetsi’s story is one of resilience, hope, and the power of community support. Her journey is a reminder that even in the darkest times, kindness from others can light the way forward.
