Actress Petronella Tshuma has recently shared her journey of navigating life as a single mother. Three years ago, she separated from the father of her second child, and since then, she has been raising her two young sons alone. In a candid and emotional revelation, the former *Rhythm City* star opened up about her experiences, struggles, and the profound love she has for her children.

“Camagu’s dad and I split up. Was that ever the plan? Of course not. So here I am, a mother to two beautiful boys with different fathers. Who would ever want to be with me again? Am I used goods? I must have been the problem, right? My lobola price will probably cost pocket change,” Petronella shared. Her words reflect the societal judgments and internal battles she has faced as a single mother.

The actress, best known for her role as Pearl on the popular soap opera *Rhythm City*, also spoke about the toll her breakup took on her mental health and career. “I could not act. Lines would not stick. But here I am, a single mom with two kids that I need to provide for. *Rhythm City*, my amazing family, was understanding. They gave me time and the greatest support. They even offered to pay for therapy.” However, Petronella chose not to attend therapy sessions after learning that the show was being cancelled. “I remember saying to my cast members, ‘how will I look after my children?’”

Despite the challenges, Petronella remains committed to providing a stable and loving environment for her children. She describes them as the most important part of her life, the ones who have seen her at her best and worst. “My children are the only ones on the planet who have seen all of my colors. The pros and cons. The lovely and the dreadful. But for some reason, I am the world and more to them.”

Petronella emphasized that motherhood is the greatest gift she has ever received, though it comes with significant responsibilities. Her love and dedication to her sons are evident in her words and actions, as she continues to balance her career and personal life.

Reflecting on her career, Petronella recalled how she got her big break a decade ago, auditioning for *Class Act* in front of industry heavyweights like Rapulana Seiphemo, James Ngcobo, and Moonyeenn Lee. At the time, she was asked what other skills she had besides acting, to which she responded, “All I am good at is being a mum.” Her response speaks volumes about her identity and the importance she places on motherhood.

Now, as she navigates the challenges of single parenthood, Petronella is continually rediscovering herself. “And all the while, I’m always rediscovering myself. I had no idea such a lovely young lady existed. I’d filled everyone else’s cups, even the roles I’d play, and there was nothing left for myself. Self-employment is not for the faint of heart. It is challenging yet rewarding.”

Petronella’s journey is a testament to her resilience and strength as a mother and a professional. Despite the hardships, she continues to strive for a better future for herself and her children, embracing the challenges with grace and determination. As she continues to navigate her personal and professional life, Petronella remains an inspiration to many, proving that even in the face of adversity, one can rise and thrive.
