It is with great sadness that we report the passing of the legendary Lucas “Masterpieces” Moripe, known affectionately as ‘Modimo wa bolo’. Moripe, who had been struggling with an illness for some time, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday night. His death marks the end of an era for South African football, as he was a true icon of the game.

A Football Career That Left a Mark

Lucas Moripe’s football journey began in 1971 with Pretoria Callies, where he showcased his incredible talent as a midfielder. Over the years, his skill and vision on the ball earned him a place in the hearts of fans across the country. In 1981, Moripe made a move to Orlando Pirates, another of South Africa’s premier football clubs. The stadium now serves as a lasting tribute to the man whose career brought joy to so many.
