South African actress and media personality Thulisile Phongolo, popularly known as Thuli P, is officially returning to the small screen. The SABC1 hit soapie Generations: The Legacy announced her comeback with great excitement as she reprises her iconic role as Namhla Diale. Fans can expect to see her on-screen return on Friday, 25 April 2025.
Thuli’s comeback follows the departure of actress Mpume “Six” Nyamane, who played Aubrey Poo’s on-screen wife. This opened the door for a powerful character return, and Namhla’s re-entry into the show promises to stir up plenty of drama.
SABC1 PR Specialist Caroline Phalakatshela offered insight into what viewers can expect from Namhla’s return. “Namhla is ambitious, intelligent, cunning, slightly aloof, and fiercely independent,” she explained. “She has a complicated relationship with her parents—Lucy Diale and Jack Mabaso. Her bond with Lucy is deep but challenging, while Jack seeks to mold her into his world, which both intrigues and tempts Namhla.”
Namhla, once a shy and awkward teenager, is no longer the same person fans remember. After living and working abroad, she returns as a confident, worldly woman with big dreams. With refined skills and a desire for a grander life, she believes her father Jack can help her achieve it.
Speaking exclusively to Briefly News, Thuli expressed her excitement about returning to the role. “Coming back to Generations: The Legacy feels like coming home,” she said. “I’m excited to reconnect with the cast, crew, and fans, and to bring fresh energy to Namhla’s journey.”https://x.com/PhilMphela/status/1909991599918227817?t=-79wRLrmWi7zLHwbRPyb1w&s=19
There had been speculation about the future of Generations: The Legacy, but the SABC put those rumours to rest. In a recent statement, the broadcaster confirmed that the current season is still under contract, with season 34 officially on the books. The SABC and production company Morula Pictures reassured viewers that the show will continue to air without interruption. They also extended their gratitude to the cast and crew for their continued dedication.
Outside of her return to acting, Thuli has also made headlines in the property space. The star recently listed her Bryanston home for R7.4 million after purchasing a new property worth R9 million. The sale marks a new chapter in her personal life, although she admitted it’s bittersweet, given the memories attached to her old house.
With her acting comeback and new real estate milestones, 2025 is shaping up to be a major year for Thuli Phongolo. Fans eagerly await Namhla’s return to the dramatic world of Generations: The Legacy, ready to see how her evolved character will shake things up in the soapie.
Stay tuned for what’s bound to be an unforgettable chapter in one of South Africa’s most iconic television dramas.
