Daveyton – A devastating car accident in the early hours of Sunday morning has claimed the lives of three people on Heald Street in Daveyton. The fatal crash has left the local community in shock as authorities piece together the events that led to the tragedy.

According to reports, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officers responded swiftly to the scene after receiving distress calls about a major collision. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a BMW sedan that had crashed into a concrete wall while travelling westbound.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle may have been travelling at a high speed before the driver lost control and slammed into the wall with great force. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was extensively damaged, trapping the occupants inside.

Emergency medical teams were immediately called to the scene to render assistance. Unfortunately, despite their rapid response, all three occupants — the driver and two passengers — were declared dead on arrival. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
An EMPD spokesperson confirmed that the cause of the accident is still under investigation. “We can confirm that three people lost their lives in a single-vehicle crash on Heald Street, Daveyton. The vehicle collided with a concrete barrier, and all occupants were declared deceased at the scene,” the spokesperson said. “Further details will be made available once investigations are complete.”

Local residents who live near the crash site described hearing a loud bang in the early hours before rushing outside to see the wrecked vehicle. “It was around 2 a.m. when we heard a huge crash,” said one witness. “When we came out, the car was already smashed against the wall. It was a terrible sight.”
The tragic incident has renewed community calls for stricter speed enforcement and improved road safety measures along Heald Street, which has become notorious for reckless driving and late-night speeding. Some residents say several accidents have occurred in the area over the past year, raising concerns about the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially during the night when visibility is low and fatigue can set in. “We are once again appealing to all drivers to obey speed limits and drive responsibly,” said an EMPD traffic officer. “Lives are being lost unnecessarily on our roads.”
Counselling services are being arranged for the victims’ families, while post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted to assist in the ongoing investigation.
The community continues to mourn the loss of three young lives cut short in an instant. As friends and relatives gather to comfort one another, the tragedy stands as another painful reminder of how quickly negligence or a moment of inattention can lead to irreversible consequences on the road.
