A tragic incident has left the community of Libode in the Eastern Cape shocked and mourning after a 16-year-old schoolgirl was found dead days after leaving home to meet her boyfriend.
The teenager, identified as Amahle, was a Grade 11 learner at Bulana NdamaSe Senior Secondary School in the Nyandeni Local Municipality. She lived in the Ngcongconi area near Libode and was described by relatives and community members as a dedicated learner who rarely missed school.

According to information shared by family members and residents, Amahle left her home on Friday evening after telling those close to her that she was going to meet her boyfriend in Tabase village. It is believed the two had arranged to meet along a path between their villages.
Because it was dark, the pair reportedly used the light from their cellphones’ torches to help locate one another while approaching the meeting point. Amahle allegedly reassured her boyfriend that she was on her way and that he should not worry.
However, as the boyfriend walked toward the area near Dipini where they planned to meet, he suddenly noticed that the light from Amahle’s phone had disappeared. Concerned, he tried to contact her by calling her cellphone, but although the phone rang, she did not answer.
The young man reportedly went to the location where he last saw the light shining, hoping to find her nearby. Despite searching the area, he was unable to locate her and returned without knowing what had happened.
Amahle’s family only realised something might be wrong later when one of her friends mentioned that she had gone out that night to meet her boyfriend. At first, relatives believed she might have stayed over somewhere, but their concern grew when she failed to return home.
The situation became more alarming when Amahle did not attend school on Monday, which was unusual for the hardworking learner. Realising that something could be seriously wrong, her family reported her missing.
Community members and relatives quickly joined forces to search for the teenager in nearby areas, including paths, fields, and bushy sections along the route she was believed to have taken.
During the search, Amahle’s aunt and two of her friends reportedly made a disturbing discovery when they found a shoe near a bridge along the road where Amahle had last been seen. This discovery intensified fears that something tragic might have happened.
The search continued through Tuesday night as community members combed through surrounding areas hoping to find her alive.
Sadly, Amahle’s body was later discovered in an area on the opposite side of where searchers had initially focused their efforts. Authorities were immediately alerted, and police officers together with forensic services arrived at the scene to collect the body.
Residents have since expressed concern about the handling of the case, claiming that police had not yet taken statements from some family members shortly after the discovery. Community members say they are still waiting for investigators to return and continue gathering information.
The heartbreaking incident has deeply shaken the Libode community, with many residents calling for justice and a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Amahle’s death.
Local organisations and community leaders have also urged the public to support the grieving family as they come to terms with the loss of a young life.
Police investigations into the case are ongoing as authorities work to determine exactly what happened on the night Amahle disappeared.
