Double Homicide Shocks Community

A devastating incident occurred on Sunday, October 20, when two women, Ayanda Ngobeni and Busisiwe Khumalo, were brutally murdered on the N4 highway. The victims, both in their 20s, were found dead in a stationary BMW, riddled with bullets.

Victims’ Backgrounds

Ayanda Ngobeni, a prominent figure in her community, served as deputy secretary of the City of Mbombela Marathon Club and marketing director of the Liver Brothers Football Club. She was also an active member of the Sapa Yopa Motorcycle Club. Busisiwe Khumalo, 23, worked as an intern in Mbombela.

Investigation Underway

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli confirmed that the SAPS is investigating two counts of murder. No arrests have been made yet. The police urge anyone with information to contact them on 08600 10111 or through the My SAPS App.

Family’s Plea

Ngobeni’s family appealed to the public to refrain from spreading false information and speculative accusations, allowing the authorities to conduct their investigations thoroughly.

The City of Mbombela Marathon Club expressed their devastation, describing Ngobeni as their “heartbeat.” Thulani Mkhabela, the club’s chairperson, stated, “We believe the authorities will do everything in their power to have the culprits apprehended soon.”

Funeral Services

Ayanda Ngobeni’s memorial service was held on Friday, October 25, at the Church on the Hill. Her funeral took place on Saturday, October 26, in Mbombela. Busisiwe Khumalo’s funeral will be held on Sunday, October 27, in Mayflower.

Ngobeni’s sister, Ziningi Nkuna, described Ayanda as a kind and well-liked person. “She played a big role in our lives and those around her.” The community has been deeply affected by the loss of these two young women.
