A heartbreaking incident has left a mother in Cato Manor, KwaZulu-Natal, in distress after her two-week-old baby girl, Owami Lonathando Sindani, was kidnapped on Sunday. The infant’s mother, Bongiwe Sindani, is appealing to the public for any information that could help bring her daughter home safely.

The kidnapping occurred after Bongiwe formed a brief friendship with an unknown woman she met while waiting in line at a local clinic on Thursday, April 24, 2025. The suspect, whose identity remains unknown, appeared friendly and later visited Bongiwe at her home in Nsimbini on Sunday.

According to Bongiwe, the woman arrived at her residence and spent some time with her. At around 3:00 PM, Bongiwe stepped outside momentarily to discard a bucket of water. In that brief moment, the woman fled with baby Owami and Bongiwe’s Hisense cellphone.

The suspect took advantage of Bongiwe’s trust and the short absence to carry out the abduction. Unfortunately, the mother does not have much information about the woman. Details such as her full name, background, or place of residence are unknown, making the search for the kidnapper and the child more challenging.

Owami was last seen wearing a white romper and wrapped in a blue blanket. After discovering the abduction, Bongiwe, along with members of the local community, launched an immediate and extensive search in the area, but all efforts have so far been unsuccessful.

Authorities and community members are now turning to the public for help. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has issued an urgent appeal to anyone who might have seen the suspect or has any information regarding the whereabouts of baby Owami Sindani. They can be reached at 086 1234 333.

Child abduction cases are deeply distressing and time-sensitive. The quicker information is gathered, the better the chances of a safe return. Bongiwe and her family are pleading for anyone who might have seen anything suspicious or has any leads, no matter how small, to come forward.

Please share this information widely to help reunite Bongiwe with her newborn daughter. Every share and every tip could make a difference.
