Award-winning actress Gcina Mkhize, best known for her role on the popular TV show ‘Isibaya,’ has revealed her dire financial situation, stating that she needs food for her children and has no income.
Gcina Mkhize: ‘Our Safety Has Been Compromised’
Gcina Mkhize, who gained fame for her role in ‘Isibaya,’ is now pleading for donations as she battles unemployment and severe financial hardship. In a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mkhize shared her distressing circumstances, highlighting the struggles she faces daily due to the lack of job opportunities.
“Good morning, South Africa. As you can see, I slept in this house with only a curtain acting as my door. My safety and my children’s safety are compromised,” she said, expressing her fear and vulnerability.
She continued, “I lay awake, asking myself what can happen in the middle of the night when my home is like this. Because anyone can just come in and do as they please.” Mkhize further appealed for assistance, stressing the urgency of her needs. “We need to be connected to the outside world. We don’t have any resources, and we need the help of law enforcement agencies to help us,” she pleaded.
The actress, who is a single mother, has been unable to find work in the entertainment industry and says any form of assistance would be greatly appreciated. “We need food, and I am a single mom. But I will not leave this room because what this person wants to do is constructive eviction,” she stated, referring to her current living situation.
Details about whether Mkhize is renting or owns the property remain unclear, as reported by IOL. However, her desperation is evident as she continues to seek help from the public.
#### Public Reactions to Mkhize’s Video
Gcina Mkhize’s heartfelt plea has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many expressing empathy for her situation while others voiced their opinions on the responsibilities of celebrities.
One user, @Kim_Laura1, commented, “This mentality that we owe celebrities must come to an end someday.” Another user, @IronFistBattleT, linked Mkhize’s troubles to spiritual beliefs, saying, “The problem is that these artists go to sangomas for blessings and protection instead of God who gave them those gifts. The Bible is clear about the consequences of visiting spirit mediums. The devil thrives on spiritual ignorance.”
Others recalled past reports of Mkhize’s financial struggles, including @sindi_ndimande, who noted, “I remember reading her story on one of the newspapers. She failed to keep up with the payments of the house. The house got sold at an auction & the new owner had been trying to move her without success.”
Some social media users offered suggestions, such as @Lindo_Mnisi, who asked, “Is she willing to move into a backroom ekasi (township) in order to regroup her life?” while others showed concern for the property owner affected by Mkhize’s situation.
@SthembiD highlighted the broader issue of financial planning among artists: “Buying property needs financial advisors. Most artists end up struggling because they buy properties they won’t be able to pay up long term. She allegedly failed to pay, then the house got auctioned, now she is resisting eviction. I pity her. But can you imagine what the owner is going through too?”
Mkhize’s story serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry and the challenges many artists face when their careers stall. Her plea continues to resonate with many, sparking debates about the realities of life after fame.
