Johannesburg authorities have confirmed a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Warrick Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, who was fatally shot in Johannesburg’s Central Business District earlier this week. City officials say a woman has now been identified as a key person of interest in the case, as police intensify efforts to track down those responsible.
Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety, Mgcini Tshwaku, revealed that investigators believe the woman may be linked to events that preceded DJ Warras’ killing. According to Tshwaku, the woman was allegedly a former tenant at the Zambesi building in the Johannesburg CBD — the same location where the popular DJ and media personality was shot and killed.

The murder, which occurred on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and the broader public, prompting calls for swift justice. Since the incident, police have launched a full-scale manhunt for suspects believed to be involved in the attack. Authorities have confirmed that five individuals have already been taken in for questioning as part of the investigation, although no arrests have yet been announced.
Tshwaku emphasized that the woman identified is not yet charged but is being treated as a person of interest due to information uncovered during the early stages of the probe. He further stated that she is allegedly mentioned in a protection order that DJ Warras had previously obtained, raising concerns that the murder may have been preceded by threats and ongoing disputes.
“There’s a woman who is cited as the kingpin, and she is also mentioned in the protection order,” Tshwaku said. “She is a woman of interest. There is a committee that had been threatening Warras, and some of them were saying that because he was trying to remove them, they would deal with him. That is why he went to get a protection order.”
While police have not disclosed the exact nature of the disputes, Tshwaku’s comments suggest that DJ Warras had been facing intimidation and felt his life was in danger prior to his death. The existence of a protection order has intensified scrutiny around whether sufficient measures were in place to ensure his safety.
Law enforcement officials say investigators are working around the clock, reviewing CCTV footage, witness statements, and other evidence to piece together what led to the killing. The possibility that the murder was premeditated is being explored, particularly in light of the alleged threats and prior conflicts.
Authorities have urged members of the public who may have information related to the case to come forward, stressing that community cooperation is vital to bringing those responsible to justice. As the investigation continues, police have reiterated that all suspects remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
DJ Warras’ death has left fans, colleagues, and loved ones mourning the loss of a prominent figure, while the nation waits anxiously for answers. Police say further updates will be provided as soon as new information becomes available.
