Ebenhaezer Dibakwane (1994 – 2025)
The sudden passing of Ebenhaezer Dibakwane left fans heartbroken. A gifted actor, comedian, and TV personality, he was known for his roles in Miseducation (Netflix), MTV Shuga, Ashes to Ashes, and Emoyeni. His talent was recognized early on with several accolades, including the Savanna Comics Choice Newcomer of the Year in 2016 and Intermediate Comedian of the Year. Doc Shebeleza (Victor Bogopane, 1973 – 2025)
Legendary kwaito musician Doc Shebeleza, real name Victor Bogopane, was a household name known for hits like Ghets Ghetsa and S’kumfete. Just months before his death, he had undergone successful surgery, giving fans hope for his recovery. Sadly, he passed away on 9 March 2025, as reported by Daily Sun. Dada Masilo (1985 – 2024)
One of South Africa’s most innovative dancers and choreographers, Dada Masilo began her journey in Johannesburg’s Dance Factory during the 1990s. Known for her unique approach to classical ballet fused with African dance, her work captivated audiences globally. Masilo died on 29 December 2024. Her life was celebrated at a moving memorial held at the Gibson Kente Theatre in February 2025.
Athol Fugard (1932 – 2025)
An icon of South African theatre, Athol Fugard was not only a playwright but also a voice against apartheid. Over a 70-year career, he penned 30 plays, including The Blood Knot, Sizwe Banzi is Dead, and The Island. His passing on 8 March 2025 marked the end of an era. Ashwill Sauls (2000 – 2024)
