The community of Duduza is engulfed in deep sorrow following the tragic death of a promising amapiano artist, Kamogelo Peace Mokoena, popularly known as *Freddy Da Vocalist*. The young musician lost his life in a violent robbery attack in the early hours of Tuesday, a heartbreaking incident that has left residents shocked and mourning the loss of a vibrant talent with a bright future ahead.

According to the Last Battalion Anti-Crime Unit, the incident occurred at approximately 01:26 am near the BP Garage in Extension 15, Duduza. The unit’s spokesperson, Mkhonto Ndimande, confirmed that Mokoena and his companion, Nhlanhla Makhanya, had gone out that night to check their matric results. What should have been a joyful and celebratory moment quickly turned into a nightmare.
The two young men were reportedly on their way back home, filled with excitement after receiving their results, when they were confronted by a group of suspects. The attackers allegedly demanded their cellphones, with at least two of them armed with knives. The situation escalated rapidly into violence.

“Makhanya was robbed of his phone and stabbed in the back,” said Ndimande. Despite being seriously injured, Makhanya survived the attack and was rushed for medical attention. However, the attackers did not stop there. They went on to confront Mokoena, who was also assaulted by the same group of perpetrators.
Tragically, Mokoena sustained fatal injuries during the attack and later succumbed to them. His death has sent shockwaves throughout Duduza and the local music community, where he was known not only for his talent but also for his dedication to pursuing his dreams through music. Friends and supporters have taken to social media to express their grief, describing Freddy Da Vocalist as humble, hardworking, and passionate about amapiano.
The loss has been particularly painful given the circumstances surrounding the incident. A night meant to mark an important academic milestone instead ended in devastating violence, highlighting the ongoing concerns around crime and safety, especially for young people in the area.
In a positive development amid the tragedy, the Last Battalion Anti-Crime Unit has confirmed that suspects have been successfully arrested in connection with the murder of Kamogelo Peace Mokoena and the attempted murder of Nhlanhla Makhanya. The arrests have brought some relief to the grieving community, although they do little to ease the pain of losing a young life.
Community members have since called for justice and stronger efforts to combat crime, urging authorities and community safety groups to work together to prevent similar incidents in the future. As investigations continue, Duduza remembers Freddy Da Vocalist not for the violence that ended his life, but for the music, dreams, and potential that were taken far too soon.
Peace Mokoena’s legacy now lives on in the hearts of those who knew and supported him, as the community continues to mourn and seek healing in the wake of this senseless tragedy.
