Free-to-air broadcaster e.tv has officially announced the cancellation of its popular daily drama *House of Zwide* after five successful seasons. The fashion-focused series, which has captivated audiences since its debut, will air its final episode in June 2026, marking the end of an era for one of South Africa’s most-loved telenovelas.
Since premiering on 21 July 2021, the show quickly established itself as a fan favourite. Set against the glamorous yet cutthroat backdrop of Johannesburg’s high-fashion industry, *House of Zwide* delivered gripping storylines centred on ambition, legacy, betrayal, and resilience. The drama not only entertained viewers but also offered a rare glimpse into the competitive world of local fashion, blending style with intense family dynamics and corporate rivalries.

The series played a significant role in launching and elevating the careers of several young actors. Rising stars such as Nefisa Mkhabela, Wanda Zuma, Thato Dithebe, Gaisang K Noge, and Shalate Sekhabi became household names through their performances. They shared the screen with respected industry veterans including Vusi Kunene, Winnie Ntshaba, Khaya Dladla, Warren Masemola, Mduduzi Mabaso, Jeffery Sekele, Matshepo Maleme, and Motlatsi Mafatshe, whose experience added depth and credibility to the production.
In a brief statement released on Thursday evening, the channel praised the show’s impact, highlighting how it cultivated a loyal fanbase and showcased powerful storytelling rooted in local creativity. According to e.tv, the drama successfully portrayed themes of ambition and perseverance while celebrating South African talent both in front of and behind the camera.

The broadcaster also confirmed that it will bid farewell to Afrikaans telenovela Kelders van Geheime, which is scheduled to conclude on 28 August 2026. The series gained popularity for its compelling exploration of buried secrets, fractured relationships, and redemption. Its excellence was recently recognised with eight nominations at the 19th South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs), reflecting the strength of its cast and creative team.
In its statement, e.tv explained that both productions were designed as complete stories with natural conclusions. Ending the shows at their creative peaks, rather than prolonging them unnecessarily, aligns with the channel’s commitment to delivering high-quality storytelling while respecting audiences.
The network expressed gratitude to the production companies and creative teams involved, including K Films, Bomb Production, and Videovision Entertainment, for their dedication and passion. Special thanks were also extended to viewers who consistently supported the shows and welcomed them into their homes.
The cancellation of *House of Zwide* follows last year’s announcement that long-running soapie Scandal! would also come to an end after two decades on air. As these major productions wrap up, e.tv says the conclusions create space for fresh and exciting new content, signalling a new chapter for South African television drama.
