The body of 14-year-old Grade 8 learner **Endinako Dudu** has been recovered following a heartbreaking search after severe flooding in the Makana Local Municipality area.
Endinako, a pupil at Mary Waters High School, was reported missing after heavy rains battered Makhanda and surrounding communities earlier this week. According to reports, she was on her way home from school when she was swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross the Kowie River.
The region experienced intense downpours that caused rivers and streams to swell rapidly, overwhelming drainage systems and flooding several neighbourhoods. Residents described the rainfall as some of the heaviest seen in recent months, with roads submerged and access to certain areas temporarily cut off.
