Veteran South African actor Rapulana Seiphemo has shared heartfelt memories of his late friend and colleague Presley Chweneyagae, reflecting on their bond and the impact Presley left on the local entertainment industry. Speaking during an interview on Metro FM on Monday, 25 May 2026, Seiphemo opened up about the emotional void left since Presley’s passing a year earlier.

Seiphemo described Presley’s death as a deep loss not only to him personally but to the entire South African film and television industry. He spoke candidly about the grief that still lingers, noting that Presley’s talent and energy were far from fully realised at the time of his passing.
The two actors first crossed paths while working on the internationally acclaimed film *Tsotsi*, which became a defining moment in Presley Chweneyagae’s career. The Oscar-winning production introduced Presley to global audiences and marked the beginning of his rise as one of South Africa’s most recognised actors. Seiphemo recalled that at the time, he was already established in the industry, while Presley was still a young and emerging talent.
Their professional relationship quickly developed into a close friendship. Seiphemo shared that their connection went beyond the film set, describing Presley as more than just a colleague. According to him, their bond grew into something brotherly, built on mutual respect, shared experiences, and genuine affection for one another.

He also reflected on conversations they had over the years, including discussions about collaborative projects. Seiphemo revealed that he had once invited Presley to join him in an acting initiative aimed at mentoring and training young aspiring performers in Mahikeng and surrounding areas. He said Presley was open and enthusiastic about contributing to developing young talent, a reflection of his passion for uplifting others in the industry.
Presley Chweneyagae passed away on 27 May 2025 at the age of 40, following reported breathing complications. His death shocked fans, colleagues, and the broader entertainment community, many of whom had admired his powerful performances and charismatic screen presence.

Beyond *Tsotsi*, Presley became widely known for his role as Cobra in the popular television drama *The River*, where his performance further cemented his status as a household name. Over the years, he also appeared in several notable productions including *Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom*, *iNumber Number*, *The Throne*, and various stage performances that showcased his versatility as an actor.
During the interview, Seiphemo admitted that learning about Presley’s passing was devastating. He expressed disbelief and sorrow, saying that the news felt unreal and difficult to process. He emphasised that Presley still had so much to offer creatively and believed his career was far from over.
The emotional tribute highlighted not only the personal loss felt by those closest to Presley but also the wider impact of his absence in the entertainment industry. Fans and fellow actors continue to remember him for his talent, humility, and contribution to South African storytelling.
Even a year after his passing, Presley Chweneyagae’s legacy continues to live on through his work and the memories shared by those who knew him best.
