A tragic shooting outside a tuck shop in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, has claimed the lives of two 18-year-olds and left another man injured, adding to growing concerns about gang violence in Cape Town communities.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:15pm on Friday, 24 July, on Laura Street. Police believe the shooting was gang-related and have launched a murder investigation while searching for those responsible.
Emergency services responded to reports of gunfire outside the local tuck shop, where they found an 18-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her back. She was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
A second victim, an 18-year-old man, was rushed to hospital in a private vehicle but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. During the shooting, a 23-year-old man was also struck by a stray bullet, suffering a gunshot wound to his right arm. He received medical treatment for his injuries.
Police have identified the young woman as Keisha Samuels. Her death has left family members, friends, and the wider community heartbroken.
According to police, Mitchells Plain officers have opened two murder cases and one attempted murder case. At this stage, no suspects have been arrested, and investigations remain ongoing.
