Heartbreaking news has emerged from Soweto as the family of five-year-old Makwande Mazibuko prepares to lay the young boy to rest following weeks of uncertainty and pain.
Makwande went missing on 2 August 2026, leaving his family and members of the community desperately searching for answers. Two days later, his body was discovered in an open field in Phiri. According to reports, the child had suffered burn injuries, prompting police to treat the case as a suspected murder.
The discovery devastated Makwande’s family, who were then forced to endure another painful wait while authorities worked to formally confirm his identity through DNA testing.
His mother, Gugu Mazibuko, has spoken about the emotional difficulty of waiting for confirmation before the family could make funeral arrangements.
