The family, friends and community of 20-year-old Tshepang Nyathi have gathered in Refilwe, Cullinan, outside Pretoria, to bid a final farewell to the young man who lost his life during Spring Day celebrations last week.
Nyathi was fatally stabbed following an alleged confrontation during the celebrations, which reportedly involved people splashing water. The incident has since left his family and the wider community mourning his death and calling for an end to violence among young people.
A suspect has been arrested in connection with Nyathi’s death and is facing a murder charge. The matter is expected to proceed through the courts as the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing are considered.
As mourners gathered to pay their respects, Nyathi’s family faced the difficult task of saying goodbye to a loved one whose life was cut short.
His brother has also made an emotional appeal to members of the public, particularly social media users, asking them to refrain from posting hurtful, disrespectful or negative comments about Tshepang.
