A neighbour whose CCTV cameras captured parts of the deadly tavern shooting that claimed the lives of 17 people, with an 18th victim later dying in hospital, has described the terrifying events he says unfolded during the attack.
According to the neighbour, the incident began when a group of armed men approached the area near his home. Fearing for his life, he said he immediately ran inside and hid underneath his bed as the attackers moved through the area.
The neighbour alleges that the armed men entered his house and placed their firearms inside the lounge. He then remained hidden while the suspects allegedly went outside and opened fire on people who had gathered at or near the tavern.
The shooting reportedly caused panic as people attempted to escape from the gunfire. The neighbour said he could hear the attack taking place while he remained concealed inside his home.
He further alleged that the suspects returned to his house after firing on people outside the tavern. According to his account, they went back inside to reload their firearms before returning to the tavern.
The neighbour claims this happened repeatedly, saying the suspects returned to his home three times to reload their weapons.
He also estimated that the entire attack continued for more than 30 minutes, leaving residents in the area terrified as gunfire reportedly continued during the incident.
The neighbour said CCTV cameras around his property captured some of the movements of the alleged attackers. However, he claimed that some of the cameras were shot and damaged during the attack, potentially affecting the amount of footage investigators are able to recover.
The footage that remains could potentially assist police in establishing the movements of the suspects before, during and after the shooting.

The deadly incident has left families mourning and the surrounding community searching for answers over how such an attack could unfold.
